Small Acreage Stewardship Workshop – May 31^st 6:30 PM

Do you have from 5 to 40 acres and often wonder “what can I do with this property that would be profitable that I would also enjoy”?  Caldwell County AgriLife, the USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service, and the Caldwell-Travis Soil and Water Conservation District want to help!  We have partnered up to provide a free program to the public to assist you in the following areas: 1) which agriculture enterprises are best for small acreage 2) economic considerations of small agriculture operations 3) resources available to agriculture producers on small acreage.  We hope to help you put the pencil to “it” to find the best option for you.  Is it always a good idea to run cattle?  Is honeybees a profitable endeavor for you?  Is an agriculture land valuation (often mistakenly called a “ag tax exemption”) really the best choice for your property?  We want to help you make those decisions.  No need to RSVP.  The program will be held from 6:30-8:30 PM at the Scott Annex (address listed above).  Dinner will NOT be provided.  

Private Pesticide Applicator Training

Private Pesticide Applicator Training – May 26^th 1 PM

Have you tried to buy certain chemicals to apply to your property for ag use to rid yourself of weeds and brush and been denied because you did not have a private pesticide applicator’s license from the state of Texas?  If so, this upcoming class on May 26^th is for you!  The class will start at 1 PM at the Scott Annex Conference room located at 1403 Blackjack in Lockhart.  A video will be presented with a few tips and assistance on how to prep for the test and how to keep up hours on your license after you take the test.  The test will not be administered until you schedule it at a testing center nearby on a different day.  Full details will be explained in the class.  If you intend to participate in the class, please contact the Extension office and ask for Ronda to sign up on or before May 25^th.  The cost of the course will be $50.
